SPRING SENIOR SPECIAL!!!

During the Spring, all our senior cats will be adoptable for half the usual adoption donation. So, why not take home two! Adopting a senior cat means none of the “cat crazy” behavior: curtain climbing, racing around in the middle of the night, and/or constantly trying to sneak out of the house when you aren’t looking. These wonderful cats have established personalities, are more laid-back and tend to stay closer to home. So many adopters are looking for kittens, that they forget how great it feels to adopt an older cat. And remember, kittens grow into cats very quickly. So stop in this spring and take advantage of the Senior Special.

GoldyGoldy

We have quite a few senior cats here at the shelter, including this little girl. Goldy is a shy, teeny-tiny cat, who will need a quiet home. Absolutely adorable, she will take some time to warm up to whoever chooses to adopt her. But she will be worth the patience. She is lovely and well-behaved.

Shelter Needs

Our needs this week are large covered litter boxes and wet cat food. We still need a new washing machine, so, if you have one in good working condition, please give us a call. We can always use monetary donations, the easiest way to donate is on our web site, just click the donate button. Remember…some donations are tax deductible, if you ask, we will be happy to give you a receipt.

Our hours are: Noon to 5 p.m. Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. By appointment only: Monday and Wednesday. We are closed on Tuesday and Friday.

Cheyenne

Cheyenne passed up for a kitten.

By Mary Donaldson, Shelter Manager

“We’ve changed our minds, we’re going to get a kitten.” Unfortunately we hear this quite a lot here at TARPS, people pick one of our older cats, then decide they want the fun of a new kitten. This time it was our beautiful girl Cheyenne who was left behind. Cheyenne had kittens here in 2010, all of whom found wonderful homes, but Mom was never chosen. With her lovely coat and sparkling personality, we just can’t understand why no one has given her a forever home. TARPS has many older cats that would make fantastic companions for someone, stop in and meet them, maybe Cheyenne is the one you will choose!

TARPS Annual Meeting

TARPS would like to invite you to join us for our Annual Meeting on May 13, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. We will be meeting at the Town Hall in Chester, hope you can join us.

Behind

Normally I would list our needs (paper towels, litter boxes, wet cat food, etc.) here…but this week we are putting out a call for monetary donations. Our expenses this winter were so high that we are having trouble “catching up.” Any amount would be of great help. Please help if you can. You can also make direct donations to our food bill at Erskine’s Grain or our vet bill at Rockingham Veterinary Clinic both in Chester. Or visit us online and click the DONATE button.

Our hours are: Noon to 5 p.m. Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. By appointment only: Monday and Wednesday. We are closed on Tuesday and Friday.

Nicolas

Handsome but shy Nicolas.

By Mary Donaldson, Shelter Manager

Nicolas

Nicolas is a handsome three-year-old who would love to have a new home. He’s a bit shy in new situations, but a real love-bug once he feels comfortable. Nicolas is calm and laid back, will fit beautifully into any home.

Great Bake Sale

Big kudos to the TARPS baking crew and pre-Easter shoppers. We had a wonderful Bake Sale at Lisia’s on the 7th.

Our next bake sale is scheduled for May 12th. It’s our annual Bake & Plant Sale. If you have plants to donate or would like to bake, contact us at 802-875-7777.

Keep Kittens with Moms

It’s Kitten season and we are receiving calls about kittens which people are trying to find homes for. Unfortunately, they are trying to find new homes when the kittens are just 4 to 5 weeks old.

Kittens must stay with their mothers for at least 8 weeks to be safely re-homed with the best chance for a long and healthy life. Even though your kittens are eating solid food, they still need their mother and litter mates. This time allows them to receive important nutrition from their mother’s milk, and allows the mother time to teach them to use the litter box, play with each other respectfully and hone their hunting instincts. Though cats begin weaning their young at about 5 weeks, they continue to nurse for up to 12 weeks.

If you need to let the kittens go earlier than 8 weeks, please contact TARPS or other area shelters. We will gladly take the mother and kittens until the kittens can become adoptable. After that time, we will return your (mother) cat (if you wish) once she is spayed and made up-to-date on her shots.

Thank you to the Anonymous Angels

A huge thank you to two anonymous donors to our Erskine’s Grain Store Bill. One person paid our bill in full and the other left us with a $200 credit! You are both angels.

Our hours are: Noon to 5 p.m. Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. By appointment only: Monday and Wednesday. We are closed on Tuesday and Friday.
